Clan & Rank Structure (incl. Hierarchy)

3 posts in this topic

Central Command

This is the core leadership of the Clan, it consists of a small team of like-minded individuals who have a the same goals as the founders had when making AceClan. They are essentially the overseers of operations, and focus on the long term steering the general direction of where the clan applies its resources. This includes things such as finances and money handling, investment and hosting as well as the clan's legal and contractual obligations.

It is only in the rarest of circumstances that a member of CentCom will have direct involvement in the day-to-day operations of the clan, and invariably decisions made will be filtered through the chain of command to reach those whom it applies to. As a player, you should never expect to have contact with a member of CentCom in conducting their official duties, though it is always possible you will play a game with them!

The exception to the above is those of CentCom who are appointed to fulfil the role of managing the operations of one of the below departments, with this being said, whilst one person may be responsible for actioning agreed tasks, they are usually decided on as a group.

Operations Department

The Operations Department is lead by someone who represents CentCom in actioning their decisions. This person shall usually be very senior in rank, and has a lot of responsibility and control over the operational conduct of the clan, this normally includes our game servers (This can be divided into two sub-categories as listed below), competitions and tournaments as well as other general gaming activities.

Each individual game that is considered as being officially supported by the clan will ideally have a Commanding Officer and Executive Officer, who share the responsibilities of enforcing the Code of Conduct for members via that game, as well as steering the direction and scope of the clan's involvement (e.g. for hosted games it is what servers we have, or for non-hosted what master servers we officially play on).

Hosted Games

These are games in which the clan either directly or indirectly facilitates the hosting and operation of servers for its members (and possibly all players) to come play on. We may host none, one or several game servers, depending on the demand from the individual game, the server demand is dictated by a variety of factors, though will usually be weighted by the amount of clan members wanting a server or servers.

Non-Hosted Games

These are games in which we either are unable, or unwilling to create servers for, but still want to support officially as a clan. Whilst there is a multitude of reasons why we may not host servers, it will usually be for reasons outside of our control, or requiring intervention by CentCom (e.g. for insufficient server resources). Where the aforementioned does not apply due to how the game works (e.g. World of Warcraft with it's realms), the clan will focus on a specific server or sub-set of servers to play on.

All Games

All games officially supported by the clan will have usually first undergone a probationary or trial basis, to gauge interest for potential new members, as well as the impact it may or may not have on the wider operations of the clan.

When a game has passed any applicable trial tests or periods, then we will give it the full support of our resources, including the creation of teams to enter competitions or tournaments, as well as server hosting (where applicable) and the creation of additional documentation specific to that game. We will also often look to help new players get into the game, which will be done in the form of either elected or appointed training officer(s).

Logistics Department

The Logistics Department is lead by someone who represents CentCom in actioning their decisions. This person shall usually be very senior in rank, and has a lot of responsibility and control over the logistical conduct of the clan, this normally includes our Website, Forum, Discord server and Dedicated server. The members of the sub-departments listed below ensure that the clan keeps ticking.

Technical Services

This team of people are responsible for managing our primary services, such as the forum and discord, they create new forum categories, configure plugins and make sure discord permissions are set appropriately, they will generally come into their prime when we add a new game or department to the clan, and are responsible for making sure that from a technical standpoint the roll out is nice and smooth.

Executive Cabinet

Admissions Team

This team is at the forefront of welcoming new members, they ensure that we continue to gain exposure within our focus games by making posts in official forums or discords, they also are usually the first line of contact for intake purposes when people apply to join the clan. These people also make sure that new members feel welcome, and in general are responsible for looking after anyone who is an Enlisted Grade rank. They will also keep track of who does well with referrals and report this back regularly to the relevant member's CO/XO.

Military Police

This team of people are some of the most permission-trusted members of the clan, they undertake moderator or administrator privileges in their respective focus section (whether that be game servers, the forum or discord), they help to ensure good sportsmanship is maintained and that members abide by our code of conduct. Overall, they take responsibility for making this a positive atmosphere for everyone to come play games.

Content Team

This team encompasses all of our creative or media staff, everything from our social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram etc) through to our Events co-ordinators (responsible for competitions and clan activities). The other side of this team is our graphics designers and content creators. The advertising team (official co-ordinated ads such as on Facebook, Instagram or Google) are also incorporated to this team.

Titles & Roles

Commanding Officer (CO)

The Commanding Officer of a game or department is responsible for maintaining the integrity and presence of the clan within that game, they work alongside lots of our other departments as well as manage rank changes within their remit, they equally take responsibility with ensuring good sportsmanship and conduct within their remit too. This individual is responsible for the direction and scope within the game or department, including appointing an Executive Officer (with approval of the Operations or Logistics officer). Operationally speaking, jointly with the XO, they coordinate the creation of new game servers (by requesting it from Technical Services) by receiving feedback from their members.

Executive Officer (XO)

This persons assist the CO listed above in their duties, and in the absence (for any reason) of the CO deputises as that role. Otherwise they are usually the first point of contact in a command perspective for a member of a game.

Operations Officer (OO)

As above, the Operations Officer is a member of CentCom who is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the decisions that CentCom take as a team (with respect to their regiments), they should be an absolute last resort for direct contact in the capacity of their role, and ideally they take an indirect approach by working with their teams of game command to make sure the Clan continues to grow and overall do well.

Logistics Officer (LO)

As above, the Logistics Officer is a member of CentCom who is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the decisions that CentCom take as a team (with respect to their departments), they should be an absolute last resort for direct contact in the capacity of their role, and ideally they take an indirect approach with respect to their teams, with this being said however, they are usually an extremely trusted individual who has some of the highest available level of access to the clan's resources (such as administrator privileges on the forum and discord).

Chief of Staff (CoS)

The Chief of Staff is a member of CentCom who is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities undertaken by or otherwise actioned by the Executive Cabinet's departments.

Please bear in mind that below is the complete list of all ranks we support. Some are not in effect until the clan is fully established.

Central Command
The individuals at this level of rank have shown the ultimate amount of commitment, they have responsibility for the long-term commitments and scope of the clan, they act as mentors to all and ensure that everyone is having fun. They quite likely also look after the clan's financial and legal obligations, as well as look after the clan's equipment (such as servers and services we host).

Commissioned Officers
The people at these ranks have become involved in command/management roles, and help to keep the clan growing and thriving, they will have an involvement in day-to-day management tasks, and co-ordinate the activities of their respective departments and its members, to ensure the clan continues to operate.

Non-Commissioned Officers
These ranks represent commitment, you have become a fully fledged member of the clan and have shown that you are capable of following our code of conduct, as you climb in these ranks you are learning more-and-more, and passing that knowledge to others, you will also possibly have taken up auxiliary roles and have an involvement in multiple games that we support.

Enlisted
These are the starting ranks into the clan, and are effectively considered your probationary period. You should not stay at these ranks for very long, assuming that you have generally shown good sportsmanship and followed our code of conduct, all whilst having fun and getting to know your new fellow clan members!
